Pasko Sa Butuan

Title of Short Film: Pasko Sa Butuan
School: Agusan National High School
Team Leader: Beryl Andrea P. Delicana
Team Members: Mark Angelo P. Bernaldez, Katrina Thea Z. Dacillo, Mary Mhel S. Decamotan, Jaykie D. Datinggaling

Team's Message:
"The Philippines is famed for its unique way of celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, Christmas Eve. One would travel a thousand miles to discern the magnificent traditions of Pinoy Christmas Celebration. One of which is Caroling that depicts the beauty of human relation and the deep thought, "No one is a stranger on Christmas Eve, but brothers by heart and soul." If this brotherly affection wouldn't be realized, not all the snow in Alaska would make Christmas white. Next are the lights, the wonderful and pefect Christmas lights that brighten up the dark nights of Butuan as well as the heart of each Butuanon. The sound of the Butuanon Traders along the sidewalk that rush into one's ear harmoniously enlightens the soul. These evidences are enough to prove the presence of Christmas in Butuan's Atmosphere."

"Every year, Christmas enlivens the wonderful traditions and practices of our culture. In almost every town in the country, the cool breeze in the air delivers to us what we have inherited from our ancestors.During December we already see many of the houses displaying symbols of Christmas - lanterns, Christmas trees, Christmas lights, and other symbols that fit the characteristic of the town or city. In this film, we witness how the Butuanons celebrate their Christmas season in their town. We have here our famous Butuan Plaza where everyone can have fun. We also have our Butuan City Cathedral, where many people come to visit and listen to the mass. And lasty we have our Butuan City Traders, where everyone can buy thier cheapest and wonderful gifts for Christmas. Christmas is the season of love. So we hope that everyday will be Christmas so that each day will be filled with love, peace and unity."

"When you say paskong Pinoy, there is big difference on how we celebrate Christmas compare to other countries. Filipinos traditions are more wonderful. Catanduanes is an island province in the easternmost part of the Bicol region Philippines that is often visited by typhoons, but, inspite of all the odds, catandunganons celebrate Christmas in a unique way.Every section of the community – church, hospitals, jail, orphanage, and school- commemorate the birth of Christ. Inspite of financial problem, people still do the best they can just to put a little something on their table. This reflect the true essence of Christmas."

This movie focuses on how a complete barkada spend their Christmas no matter how hard their lives are, how pressured they are because of their studies, and even though they are very busy doing a lot of things. In the community, Generals usually gather in the General Santos City Oval Plaza to put up some projects regarding the coming event. In a family, they seldom go to some places just like playground which is located in General Santos City Oval Plaza but usually they spend time with their family in there respective homes bonding together and having some fun. Some of the teenagers were having so called “outreach programs” for the abandoned children. Usually they spend time with the kids, play with them, give them gifts, the happiness they will feel never be replace by any materialistic things in their life."

Probably, they are just concern about the gifts that they are about to received. But we think that we should be persuaded that we are preparing all this things for thanksgiving to our Savior, Jesus. It reminds us that sharing is for less fortunate people. We should also remember that the real essence of Christmas is about how you put smile in anyone's face."
